Ronan Foley
For this project, I was tasked with designing and illustrating a piece to be displayed on a defunct solar panel. I decided to research sustainable culture as a relevant subject matter, and stumbled upon a genre known as solar-punk; A utopian, futuristic science fiction idea that incorporates sustainable practices into a high- tech, positive future. I looked at practical examples of sustainable energies, high and low-tech solutions to environmental problems, and cultures that already practice sustainable ways of living today, and in the past. I felt inspired to show how technology -including solar panels- improves our lives and can be a driving force in sustainability.
With my piece, I want to put a spotlight on a brighter future that I believe is possible. I let myself go wild with possibilities; green cities lifted above the surface so large portions of the earth can be reclaimed by nature, community-focused living, robots… and Blimps!
