For this project I wanted to design something that was simple yet dynamic. It was important to me that the idea could continue on out of my hands as a way of using the solar panels in the future.
I was inspired by decorative wall panels and how they play with light and shadow. This interpretation also plays into the design purpose of the panels. The panels are still converting solar light, but instead of into energy it’s transforming it into art.
I took my patterns inspiration from plant cells and leaf skeletons. I chose these because leaves are the natural solar panels of the Earth. I really liked that they allowed for both natural loose lines as well as structured grid like patterns.
The strongest aspect of this idea is that these panels can be used in such versatile ways. As building facades, as canopies, as room divides. The possibilities are endless.
