We are in the thick of the climate crisis. I focused on the theme ‘home’ and the effect the climate crisis has on it for this project.

Responsible consumption and production can help put an end to the extreme weather events such as floods, hurricanes and forest fires that the world has faced as the global temperature exceeds the 1.5 degrees Celsius goal.

Many people have been forced out of their homes due to these extreme weather events and the same will happen to our planet as a whole, except there is no planet B!

My final artwork represents what will be left of our only home – our planet – if we aren’t fighting this global fire urgently enough. The forest fire in the artwork is growing however it hasn’t burnt everything to the ground yet – showing we still have time to change.

To convey this message I experimented using expired 35mm film to capture pictures of nature, trees and specifically in the final artwork a picture of a pruned hydrangea shrub to give the effect of dead trees.

I used a mixture of bleach and nail varnish to create a forest fire on the prints
